Remember why we have a long weekend …

I know that students and families alike have been looking forward to the long weekend. The Patriots play a late playoff game on Sunday, the SL Hockey team has a late Saturday afternoon game, and of course, you’re probably looking forward to sleeping in on Monday morning.

Please don’t fall into the trap of our hectic life styles and forget the reason we have a long weekend in the first place. We are celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King was a true leader and obvious champion for civil rights and equal treatment for all. Dr. King was awarded the 1964 Nobel peace prize for his non-violent approach to activism. His message is strong and still rings loudly some 45 years after his assassination.
