Whole “lotta” changing going on …

New Web Site Address

I am pleased to announce that the Silver Lake District, as well as Dennett Elementary, Halifax Elementary,  Kingston Intermediate, and Kingston Elementary all have new web addresses.

The high school’s new site went “live” on Friday afternoon. The new site provides the school with more flexibility in providing information to the community as well as having more interactive features.  We are excited to be able to provide the community with these new features, and hope that you will be patient with us as we all become accustomed to the new site. You will notice several changes when you go to the new site, and you may even see changes from day-to-day! So, as always, be a frequent visitor to keep up with the latest news about our school. The new web addresses are as follows; Please note there is no “www” in the address.

Freshman Class Fundraiser

Last Wednesday, the freshmen class received a Meadow Farms fundraising packet. This fundraiser will help to earn money for the freshmen class. This money will be put towards future events held by freshman student council such as dances, shows, and eventually prom and other graduation activities. Orders can be placed online as well as in person. The order sheets are due November 26, 2012 in room 2304 and will be delivered in time for the holidays. If you have any questions, please contact the class advisors  Ms. Ashley Andrews (aandrews@slrsd.org) or Mrs. Michelle Boudreau (mboudreau@slrsd.org).

Women’s Ice Hockey

I hope you are aware that there is a grass-roots effort to start a Women’s Hockey Team here at Silver Lake Regional High School.  At their October meeting, the Silver Lake School Committee authorized the group to begin fundraising for the team. In accordance with school committee policy, initially, the team will be self funded and relies solely on donations. One of the first activities held by the Lady Lakers was a bake sale at the November 6, 2012 elections. The picture below from the Kingston Reporter depicts our students hard at work.

National Honor Society and Key Club Food Drive

The Silver Lake Regional High School Key Club in conjunction with the National Honor Society sponsored a food drive to help feed local families in need. Teachers, students, and parents donated food and filled over 55 boxes and bags full of food as well as raised over $400. It took two trips with the school truck to bring the food to its locations at St. Joseph’s Food Pantry in Kingston, the Veteran’s Shelter Food Pantry, and the Halifax Food Pantry. It is amazing the wonderful outcome of the Lakers working together! Thank you to all that contributed, your generosity is greatly appreciated! I never cease to be amazed by the caring of this community.

This is an excellent opportunity to slow things down and focus on what is truly important …family, friends, health, and relationships. It’s also a good time to reflect on the many blessings we each have, and not focus on the things we don’t have. I am thankful to be the Principal of this amazing high school. I enjoy my job so much that, since starting as a biology teacher at Silver Lake in 1982, I have never worked a day (of course not in the literal sense but rather in the poetic sense). The students, faculty, staff  families, and the entire community make this school the great place that it is for learning, socialization, and the hub of the community. I know that I speak for the entire faculty, staff, and student body as I wish you all a happy, healthy, and safe Thanksgiving Day. Dismissal from the high school will be at approximately 10:40 AM on Wednesday. I hope to see you all at the traditional Thanksgiving Day Football Game vs. Pembroke High School at 10:00 AM on Sirrico Field.
