EEE Prevention Update …Back to School Night … PTO

I hope that you all had a restful, happy, and healthy, Labor Day Weekend.  I now have to put my favorite Cubavera shirt that my wife bought for me  in the closet since you’re not “allowed” to wear white after Labor Day. If this was still the seventies, I’d have to put my white shoes away as well!

Looks like the Plymouth County Mosquito Control has scheduled us for spraying this Friday September 7, 2012. I am told that spraying will take place at approximately 3:00 AM and will be complete by 4:00 AM the latest. Listed below are supporting documents that you will find helpful.

Now let’s talk about some FUN stuff! Back-to-School Night will be held at the high school on Thursday, September 13, 2012. This is the perfect opportunity to meet your student’s teachers and get a flavor for what a “typical” day is like. Classes are twelve minutes in length with five minutes of passing time between classes (your student gets four minutes). teachers will discuss their class expectations, course descriptions, homework policies and grading procedures.

There are additional conferences scheduled for October and February for you to meet with the teachers and specifically discuss your student’s progress. Of course, please always feel free to contact the school at any time to set up an individual conference. Your guidance counselor is a great resource for this.

Listed below is a link to a sample schedule for Back to School Night. You will receive your student’s specific schedule when you report to homeroom. Building administrators will be in the building to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. I am looking forward to seeing you on September 13, 2012.

As a reminder …the Guidance office sponsors Parent orientations for each grade. The Senior Orientation is this Friday, September 7. Sophomore Parent Orientation is Friday September 14, and Junior Parent Orientation is Friday September 21. All orientations start at 7:45 AM and are held in the Large Group Room on the second floor. Light refreshments are served.

Our first PTO meeting of the year will be next Monday, September 10, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the high school library. The philosophy of the high school PTO is very different from what you may be accustomed to. While fund-raising is part of the program, it is by no means the focal point. Our PTO is involved at a high level in the functioning of the entire school program, As principal, I solicit advice and recommendations from the PTO on a regular basis. In fact, it was the PTO that initiated the use of coach buses to transport our students to and from Junior and Senior Prom 7 years ago. All families of SLRHS are automatically member of the PTO. Please get involved and help our school get better at all the things that we do to our students. Please plan to carve out an hour of your busy schedule and join us for our first meeting on September 10, 2012. Our new PTO President is Dawn Walsh, she is looking forward, as we all are, to a great year!
