Supporting the school and community

SLRHS Clothing

If you think PINK, Abercrombie, and Hollister apparel are all the rage …you are WRONG! Silver Lake apparel is what the well dressed high school student is sporting these days. Our PTO has a full line of clothing to help you and your family stay current with the latest trends in fashion. Please check the PTO link for information on purchasing official Silver Lake apparel. You could also email  Deb Pacheco @ “Pacheco, Deb” <>. Thank you for your support. Don’t forget, our PTO meets the first Monday of every month in the high school library. Our guest speaker for the December 5, 2011 meeting is Mr. Kevin Sawyer, Coordinator of Mathematics.

iPad2 Lab

We continue to be graced with the support of our community, the dedication of the Faust iPad2 lab was held this week. We are very grateful for the generous donation by Mr. Richard Faust and his family. The entire lab with 24 iPad2’s, Mac server, and large screen smartboard with attached projector was purchased with funds donated by the Faust family.

Giving to the Community

The Key Club had another successful Thanksgiving Food Drive. Thanks to the support of our student body and faculty, we were able to send over 30 boxes of food to local shelters, and almost $200 in gift cards.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Information

The guidance department will be sponsoring a very important Financial Aid Night on December 7, 2011 at 6:30 PM in the Large Group Room. While this presentation is especially important for parents/guardians of seniors who plan to pursue post secondary education to attend, we encourage parents/guardians of all students to attend

For any student whose parent or grandparent is a union worker, there is an application currently in Guidance for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO scholarship.  If you are interested in taking the labor history exam (required in order to be eligible for the scholarship), the deadline to register is December 19th, 2011.  Applications and study guides for the exam can also be downloaded at  The exam will be held on February, 1st, 2012 at Silver Lake.

Please be aware that there are some national scholarship opportunities currently available in Guidance and on the school website.  National Scholarships are available throughout the year, so feel free to search the listed websites or stop down to Guidance to see what is posted.

Local scholarships will be available to students in March, so stay tuned for further details on those.

Code Blue Called on December 2, 2011

Today (December 2, 2011) at approximately, 9:15 AM a PLANNED EVENT was held at the high school. We called a CODE BLUE, which means that students remain in their rooms, but carry on business as usual.

In conjunction with the Kingston Police Department K-9 unit and other area K-9 units, the drug searching dogs swept the empty hallways and lockers during the Code Blue.

No drugs of any kind were detected.

Again, this is a planned event as part of our efforts to ensure a safe environment for students and staff.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
